According to the ASTD Competency Study: Mapping the Future (Bernthal and others, 2004), [measurement and evaluation is about] gathering data and information to answer specific questions regarding the value of learning and performance solutions; focusing on the impact of individual programs and creating overall measures of system effectiveness, leveraging findings to provide recommendations for change and to increase organizational effectiveness.
Our job as learning professionals is to “provide learning and performance solutions” and to “increase organizational effectiveness.” Thus, our job is to take the data and information we gather while conducting various learning events and, afterward, turn them into something useful for all (Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick, 266).
In this session, the last in the Deconstructing ADDIE series, Sheila Pierson, Manager of Talent Development at Tyson Foods, will share how her approach to learning evaluation has evolved over the years to meet the needs of organizational effectiveness.
Sheila has over 11 years of experience progressively guiding performance of people in organizations. She has a proven history in developing value for stakeholders by identifying needs and designing strategic solutions as she worked in Business Development for NWACC, Talent Development for Cobb Vantress and now Tyson Foods, Inc. The solutions have included coordinating technical training, delivering soft skills training to individuals as well as to teams, facilitating discussions between opposing departments, designing and delivering programs to support organization mission, vision and values, and designing succession programs for executive team.
Sheila is a proud graduate of University of Arkansas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Business and a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Economics.
We look forward to seeing you on March 11th, at the University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers.
